"Embracing Change”

The Chronicles of SUN-day…RUN-days, Volume 2, Issue 8, Episode 29

On every SUN-day morning, I embark on my ritualistic run. Rain or shine, through all weather conditions, I lace up my shoes and head out the door. It has been my routine for years, an unwavering commitment to staying active and connected to nature. Sometimes, I start early in the morning, but occasionally, I run after church or in the early afternoon.

As the first rays of sunlight gently kissed the earth on that serene SUN-day morning, I set out. The air was crisp, and a light breeze whispered through the trees, promising a refreshing journey ahead. My feet fell in sync with my heart's rhythm as I traversed the familiar path through the forest.

Just as I approached a small, glistening pond—a remnant of recent rains-- I noticed a peculiar sight, a stick, partially submerged in the mud, resisting the gentle pull of the water. It seemed odd to see something so simple yet profound during my usual run. But little did I know that this seemingly ordinary stick would carry a deeper meaning and spark contemplation about the essence of change.

Curious about the origins of the phrase "stick in the mud," I discovered that it referred to someone who is resistant to change, much like the stick steadfastly resisting the flow of water. This reminded me of the importance of embracing change to maintain our physical health and overall whole-BEING.

Change is an inevitable part of life, just as the seasons change and the sun rises and sets. Embracing change allows us to grow, adapt, and explore new possibilities.

Stagnation, on the other hand, can lead to complacency and a lack of progress.

As I continued my run, I thought about the many ways in which change is essential for our physical health. When we challenge ourselves with new exercises or push beyond our comfort zones, our bodies respond by becoming stronger and more resilient.

Trying different running routes, for instance, can engage different muscle groups and prevent injury and monotony, leading to improved fitness levels.

Moreover, change extends beyond physical exercise. It encompasses our eating habits, lifestyle choices, and mental well-being. By being open to change, we can discover healthier eating habits, better ways to manage stress, and more effective techniques to maintain a balanced life.

As I completed my run and returned home, I couldn't help but appreciate the lesson the stick in the mud taught me. Change is not something to fear or resist; it is the key to unlocking our potential and living a fulfilled life. Embracing change, just like embarking on my ritualistic run, becomes an unwavering commitment to staying active, growing, and connecting with the world around us. So, rain or shine, I will continue to lace up my shoes and welcome the winds of change, knowing that it is the path to a healthier and happier life.
